Flooded Areas in Jakarta Diminished Significantly

Although it is not yet fully free from flooding, the city administration's way to handle flooding problem in the capital is quite successful. Evidently, the amount of flooded areas this year have diminished significantly compared to 2014.

This is because the intensity rainfall this year is different or lighter. Even its duration doesn't last long

According to Denny Wahyu, Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), last year, the amount of the flooded RWs in Jakarta was reaching 634 RWs or higher compared to last year, which was only 307 RWs.

"This is because the intensity rainfall this year is different or lighter. Even its duration doesn't last long," he explained, City Hall, Tuesday (2/10).

Flood Problem, Ahok Ready to Be Summoned by President

He recorded, as many as 97 urban villages are submerged and 5,986 people evacuated in 14 refugee camps. They are spread in East Jakarta, North Jakarta, and West Jakarta. The highest amount of refugees is dominated by North Jakarta, with 2,518 people who have been evacuated at six points.

"Nevertheless, we continue to monitor the latest condition in the field," he told

In North Jakarta, there are 18 urban villages inundated. Those urban villages are Kali Baru, Marunda, Rorotan, Semper Barat, Sukapura, Lagoa, Ancol, Kapuk Muara, Pejagalan, Penjaringan, Pluit, Kebon Bawang, Papanggo, Sungai Bambu, Sunter Agung, Sunter Jaya, Tanjung Priok, dan Warakas. 

Then followed by East Jakarta, where the number of refugees is reaching 1,800 people. As many as 27 urban villages are flooded, such as Cakung Barat, Cakung Timur, Jatinegara, Penggilingan, Pulo Gebang, Rawa Terate, Pondok Bambu, Bali Mester, Bidara Cina, Cipinang Besar Selatan, Cipinang Besar Utara, Cipinang Cimpedak, Cipinang Muara, and Kampung Melayu.

In West Jakarta, there are 1,668 refugees who spread in 23 urban villages. They are Cengkareng Barat, Cengkareng Timur, Duri Kosambi, Kapuk, Kedaung Kali Angke, Rawa Buaya, Wijaya Kusuma, Tegal Alur, Duri Kepa, and Kedoya Selatan. Then is Kedoya Utara, Kelapa Dua, Sukabumi Selatan, Joglo, Kembangan Selatan, Kembangan Utara, Jati Pulo, Kota Bambu Selatan, Kota Bambu Utara, Pinangsia, Angke, Duri Selatan, and Pekojan.

Besides them, similar condition also hit urban villages in Central and South Jakarta. Thus far, there has been no evacuation. In details, in Central Jakarta, floods hit 8 urban villages and 21 urban villages in South Jakarta.
